Handcrafted Custom Natural Wooden Pine Coffins & Caskets

Eco-friendly biodegradable natural unlined funeral coffins and caskets made with unfinished Rocky Mountain beetle-kill pine. Handles are built-in cutouts on the bottom for both strength and simplicity. The coffins and caskets are glued and wood pinned with joinery.  The wood is purchased from a locally, woman-owned mill that specializes in pine and spruce.

Simple pine coffins and caskets hold allure to different people for various reasons.  Some are for environmental reasons, to have the last purchase you make reflect the love you have for the environment. Some are for religious reasons orfor people who don’t want metal interred with a loved one.  Some folks, like many in Wyoming, like the idea of a simple pine box that reckons back to earlier, simpler times.  Whatever your reason, we may be able to make your final resting place a fine piece of furniture made from local pine.

What is the difference between a coffin and a casket?  A coffin is tapered at that shoulder and the lid is a separate piece that screws or is pegged onto the box. Traditionaly these have been called toe-pinchers in reference to the narrow end.  A casket is usually rectangular with a hinged top.  Our caskets have a separate top that is drilled to accommodate wood pins or screws for fastening.  Both styles can come with solid or two piece lid (for viewing).  The pieces are unfinished and unlined.  We recommend that, if a lining is desired, a quilt of blanket with significance is used.

We currently offer the High Country Coffin, a traditional ‘toe-pincher’ coffin of solid pine as well as the Ponderosa Pine Casket. While we usually have a few in stock, please allow four weeks for delivery, especially if you are looking for a custom item.

We also make wooden urns of simple pine and native hardwoods.
